Govt. Schemes/Yojanas/Initiatives – February 2017
  • India has signed Financing Agreement for credit of US$201.50 million (equivalent) for the “Third Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP III)” with World Bank
  • Union Govt. has inaugurated Centre of Integrative Oncology to help develop integrated approach to cancer prevention and managementat National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research (NICPR) in Noida, Uttar Pradesh
  • Union Minister for Sports Vijay Goel has laid the foundation stone of the country’s first centre of excellence for differently abled sportsmen at Gandhinagar, Gujarat
  • NITI Aayog in collaboration with Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), has launched “India Innovation Index”, the nation’s first online innovation index portal which will rank states based on their innovations
  • As part of UniversalImmunization Programme, Health Ministry has recently launched single vaccine for dual protection against Measles and Rubella

  • Fertiliser majorIFFCO has tied up with Bank of Baroda (BOB) to launch co-branded debit cards for farmers as part of strategy to promote cashless transactions in the rural area
  • Anil Ambani-led Reliance Defence and Engineering Limited has recently signed a Master Ship Repair Agreement (MSRA) with US Navy
  • Bharti Airtel has announced the acquisition of Norwegian telecom giantTelenor’s India operations for Rs 7,000 crore
  • As per data released by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Foreign direct investment (FDI) in India grew 18% during 2016 to touch $46 billion
  • Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vijaya Bank for providing concessional finance to Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs). The theme of the MoU is ‘MSME Credit @ Corporate Rates’

  • Canara Bank has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to operationalise the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA)
  • The Union Cabinet has approved the merger of State Bank of India with five of its associate banks including State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala, and State Bank of Travancore
  • Government plans to come out with ‘Indradhanush 2.0’, a comprehensive plan for recapitalisation of public sector lenders, with a view to make sure they remain solvent and fully comply with the global capital adequacy norms, Basel-III
  • International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, has teamed up with Finance Industry Development Council (FIDC) to conduct training programmes for Non Banking Finance Companies (NBFCs)

  • The Financial Times (FT) which ranks the top B-schools from all over the world on a yearly basis has released the list of the best MBA institutions for the year 2017. Indian School of Business, Hyderabad has got the highest rank (27th) on this list
  • According to a new study conducted by scientists in collaboration with the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), two new groups of wheat rust – Yellow Rust and Stem Rust – have been identified that posed threat to wheat produced in Africa, Asia and Europe in 2016
  • India ranked 43rd out of 45 global economies on International Intellectual Property Index prepared by the US Chamber of Commerce’s Global Intellectual Property Center (GIPC)
  • As per latest report of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), India accounted for 13% of the total global arms import between 2012–16 which is highest among all the countries
  • India has ranked 143rd out of 186 economies in the annual Index of Economic Freedom 2017 (released by top US based Think Tank, The Heritage Foundation) that measures the degree of economic freedom in the countries of the world
